As a first experience it is possible to fly directly to Mombassa and transfer to your beach hotel, then take a two or three day excursion from the beach into the Tsavo East and Tsavo West National parks.
Safaris to Tsavo East and Tsavo West reduce the amount of travelling required but still provide many game viewing opportunities and all within a few hours of the coast.
